Once they returned to Terceira Island from São Tomé and Príncipe at the end of the 19th century, where they made their fortune in the cocoa business, the Silveira and Paulo brothers built sumptuous houses in the colonial style of the era, called "Casas dos Africanos" (Houses of the Africans). One of the brothers built this summer house in Terra-Chã, which, marking his wanderings around the world, displays in the Abrevoir (chafariz), in addition to the construction date, the head of an African with a colonial helmet sculpted from Azorean basalt.
The Casa do Campo thus represents an excellent example of the chalets built in the transition from the 19th to the 20th century.
