The Dances, Dances and Comedies of the Terceira Island Carnival were distinguished as Intangible Cultural Heritage by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage.

This distinction marks the recognition of the uniqueness of the identity, experiences and festivities of the people of Terceira, in a centuries-old tradition that lasts from generation to generation.

Considered as the great spectacle of popular theater, this tradition runs through the many halls of Terceira island, which are filled to watch the performances of the dozens of groups that take place, interpreting a plot, where, in addition to music, satire and comic criticism are mandatory presence.
During the Entrudo period, the island of Terceira thus becomes a stage for actors and musicians, where sleeping is not a priority.
